Corrections Victoria operates the state’s adult prison and post-sentence systems. This includes responsibility for operating 11 public prisons, one transition centre and overseeing 3 privately operated prisons.
We are responsible for a safe, secure and humane system that provides programs and services that support rehabilitation through addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour. Taking a modern approach to correctional services, while people are in prison, they are provided with best practice interventions to help them safely integrate back into the community at the end of their sentence or period of remand.
Corrections Victoria also manages Victoria’s post sentence scheme for serious sexual and violent offenders who pose an unacceptable risk to the community, including managing two residential facilities. The post sentence scheme aims to protect the community and provide for the treatment and rehabilitation of people on post sentence orders.
Mental Health and Wellbeing
Corrections Victoria is committed to strengthening mental health awareness, prevention and support for staff. We recognise the difference our people make in keeping our prisons and communities safe, and we know a mentally healthy workforce is essential for this important work.
Guided by the Mental Health and Wellbeing Action Plan, Corrections are focused on targeted actions to address stigma, increase access to mental health resources, and promote a workplace culture that prioritises wellbeing at every level. With an emphasis on building resilience and supporting early intervention, this includes system-wide initiatives and local pilot programs designed to provide both immediate support and long-term, sustainable improvement.
Collaborating with ESF
Partnering with the Emergency Services Foundation is a practical step in CV’s commitment to building a safe and supported workforce.
Membership in the foundation will help our staff to access a range of mental health and wellbeing resources, connections and learning opportunities.
Importantly, sector-wide collaboration and information sharing also strengthens the collective knowledge base – enabling valuable insights to help improve mental health and wellbeing for staff that serve the community.
